The Shift from Expert to Leader
I coach leaders and executives to perform in transition and uncertainty.
In the world of startups and growth-stage companies, top performers are often promoted for their technical expertise. They are the “fixers” and the subject matter experts. But as they rise, they are asked to lead in unfamiliar terrain: enterprise strategy, cross-functional trade-offs, board visibility, and relentless change.
I know this terrain because I have lived it.
My Journey: The Signal in the Noise
For over 20 years, I operated in the high-stakes trenches of technology and business as Patent Holder, Entrepreneur, CTO, and VP. I understand the rush of having the answer, and the crushing pressure of needing to have it.
I have been lucky enough to have worked alongside talented and capable colleagues. I have hired and mentored skilled experts, professionals, leaders and teams. All of us have, at one time or another, reached the boundaries of our expertise, knowledge and capabilities. In my case, having someone to challenge me to challenge myself and push past those borders has led to profound and lasting change.
Throughout my career, I found that my most impactful work wasn’t just in building products but in building people. Coaching my peers and teams through the fog of rapid change, helping them find their own clarity, were gifts I passed on from those who gave to me.
Now, I translate that leadership experience into practical coaching that can help you when you reach the edges of your map.
My Methodology: Leading From Behind
I am a Hudson Institute trained coach, which means I adhere to a rigorous, evidence-based methodology that balances strategy (“Head”) and insight (“Heart”).
My stance is simple: I own the process; you own the content.
- I am not a consultant who sells you my answers. You are the expert on your business.
- I am a partner who helps you build the internal capacity to generate your own answers.
I use a practice called Leading from Behind. I don’t pull you toward my finish line; I stand behind you, providing a “clean mirror” so you can see blind spots, challenge old stories, and navigate change with clearer priorities and faster decisions.
